2015 Roundup!

2015 has been an epic year for me! Its been by far my best year of travel and although it feels like the year has gone fast (but doesn’t every year??) it also feels like it was ages ago that i was getting up on 1st January, driving to the airport and flying to Rio… now that was a great way to start the year!

In 2015 i travelled for just over 7 months, worked at home in England for only 4 months and then bummed around at home for a few weeks between trips (sometimes it has to be done!).

I visited a total of 23 countries, 20 of which were new countries to me in the areas of South America, Europe, the Middle East and South East Asia!

So here are my 15 major highlights of this year (in no particular order!).

Seeing the view of Rio from Sugarloaf Mountain.

Spending 6 hours in New York City on a layover.

Being totally surprised by Israel.

Right now i can’t think of any major lowlights, without a doubt South America was hard, i didn’t (and still don’t) speak any Spanish which made it difficult and i assumed it would be like South East Asia where buses are easy to book and people speak English in tourist areas but this really wasn’t the case and this made it difficult but looking back it’s made me a lot stronger and a more experienced traveller so i wouldn’t have had it any other way.

Thankfully my trip through Europe went smoothly as did the Middle East and since i arrived in South East Asia in November I’ve been with friends that i met on past trips and everything is easier with friends around!

Right now i don’t know what 2016 is going to hold. I know it’s going to start by partying at the New Years Eve Party in Koh Phangan, Thailand, followed by another few weeks in Thailand and then onto the Philippines and then I’m going to take it as it comes.. Not over planning is going to be my New Years Resolution!

Wow Ellie, what an amazing year you’ve had! And squeezing New York City into a 6 hour layover, that’s the way to do it 😃 Would you go back to spend more time there? I visited in April and loved it 😊 I don’t have a New Year’s resolution but I do want to exercise more in the new year and take up yoga. We’ll see how that goes! As for travel, I really want to see Iceland and California!

Thank you! It was a good one! Although I’ve changed my plans and I’m now coming back to the UK in a month and moving to London instead of New Zealand so we’ll definitely have to get a coffee/breakfast/lunch/a drink lol X
