If there’s one thing London loves it’s a cool pop-up, and if there’s one thing that we love as Londoners and the consumer love then it’s an awesome pop-up that goes permanent (because it means we can actually get tickets) and this is exactly what happened with ABQ London‘s pop-up Breaking Bad Bar!
Yes, nestled in the back streets of Bethnal Green and just up the Road from Cambridge Heath station is an actual, full sized RV and for £30.00 per person you can cook cocktails inside it for 2 hours!
But let’s just rewind a bit, so this amazing idea came around in 2015 as a temporary pop-up in London, it did amazingly well and went to Paris but the demand was so high they decided to keep it on as a permanent fixture in London and aren’t we glad they did!
I’ve been twice in the last month (keen I know!) and it really is a lot of fun!
(spot the difference below!)
First off, you have to find it! I was searching for it on my map as I was walking up the dark and empty street thinking ‘there can’t be a huge RV around here?’ I then turned around and there it was!
Next up you are welcomed by the staff in pure Breaking Bad character – ‘Yo Bitches, you here to cook?’ and their attitudes carry on for the next 2 hours which definitely adds to the experience.
You’ll be shown to your table where you’ll most likely be sat on a metal drum and then it’ll be time to really feel the part by putting your bright yellow lab coat on! I loved this idea when I saw it in all the photos before I visited and it’s perfect to protect your outfit if there are any spillages which there may well be!
To get you started you get a welcome drink in what will take you right back to your Science Lessons at school!
And then it’s time to cook! ABQ have created a new menu for this year which started in Feb 2017, it’s a great menu but they did keep a few classics from the old menu like the ‘I fucked Ted’ (‘ooh did you now?’ will most likely be the staff’s reply when you ask for this) and the ‘Walter Jr Breakfast’.
You get 2 cocktails each included in the ticket which you make yourself and they can be the same or different, you’ll get given a set of instructions and also a talk on what to do and how to make sure you make your cocktail safely, like how the dry ice is -70° so don’t touch the glass or think of eating it! And also don’t ask them for balloons when you get the canister for the gas.. we only do hard drugs will be the staff’s reply!
Personally I loved the dry ice drinks so from the new menu the CRT Fix was my favourite!
After 2 hours of fun, you’ll leave what is now quite a sweaty RV into the London night feeling a bit tipsy, you’ll have plenty of cool photos with the Heisenberg sign and Walters Blue lit up face and you might even have a few new friends as the seats are pretty close together!
All in all this is a genius idea! The amount of detail that has gone into it is what really makes it. From the music that plays in the background from the tv shows, to the cocktail names, to the confirmation email you get sent, to the brilliant staff who like I said stay in Character the whole time.
Once you’ve been for the first time you’ll be sure to start planning who you can take next time!
It’s really easy to book a slot on their website, you can even buy gift vouchers as a present and book a slot at a later time but make sure you plan a few weeks in advance as they get really busy!
Enjoy Bitches! x
