The Manor Country House Hotel, located in a village called Weston-on-the-Green, just outside of Bicester set in the Oxfordshire Countryside is the perfect place to recoup for a night, or two!

I left work at 15:45 on a Friday afternoon, by 16:20 I was on a Chiltern Railways train leaving Marylebone station, within 50 minutes I got off at Bicester Village train station having had a lovely journey cruising through the countryside and after a 10 minute £13.00 taxi ride from the station I was being dropped off on a gravel drive, outside a beautiful manor house dating back to the 11th Century ready to take in some Countryside air and relax for the night.

I had a lovely welcome at the hotel reception which is also in the main lounge area as you walk into the main door of the Manor House where I was then personally taken to my room. I was given the Chapel Suite which is one of their 27 rooms and I certainly felt like I was the lady of the Manor!

It’s a huge room with a four-poster king-sized bed, a sofa area, a desk area and all overlooking the grounds with plenty of natural daylight, then there was the bathroom which was a lot more modern however it fitted in perfectly, this too was huge with a separate shower and bath and also overlooking the grounds.

The Manor Country House Hotel have been able to keep the traditional feel of the room but also keep up with modern standards and it worked perfectly. Talking of tradition this room is called the Chapel Suite because the bathroom runs across the top of the chapel which was built-in 1066!

After I had checked in the sun was starting to set so I was so keen to head out onto the hotels ground and take some photos.

The grounds really are lovely and were totally impeccable, especially considering I visited at the start of Spring, I could tell they had been looked after all winter. The grounds include various lawns, a woodland, hidden gardens and I was so happy that my timing crossed over with sunset as the sunset from the west-facing lawn was just incredible.

What I love is that The Manor Country House Hotel have used all these ground to their advantage so there’s plenty to keep guests busy throughout the day and into those summer evenings. There’s a tennis court, a croquet lawn, terrace areas and even an outdoor swimming pool! Perfect for a family weekend away!

I retreated back to my room after taking some pictures where I had a lovely and relaxed evening which included ordering off the extensive bar menu and having room service, the service time was incredible and the food was truly amazing!

Talking of food, this brings me onto breakfast. Breakfast is served in the restaurant area which overlooks part of the  grounds and with the sun streaming in through the window it was the perfect place to enjoy a slow breakfast. Tea, coffee and juices were readily available on a self-serve basis as were cereals, pastries, fruit, yogurt etc. Cooked breakfasts for example a full english breakfast or an omelette could be ordered off the menu which I think is a lovely touch and means dishes are nice and fresh.

Breakfast at The Manor Country House Hotel

After breakfast I had to say goodbye to my room and check out, it was all very sad but before I got the train back to London I decided to visit Bicester Village which is a designer outlet shopping centre and despite how popular it is with tourists and people who live in the UK I had never been and I was keen to see what bargains you could get there.

Bicester Village is home to over 130 stores boutique stores, the ‘Village’ is very much a purposely built place with all of the shop fronts being the same but it is very well-kept and due to its size it’s very easy to get around and find the store you want.

After doing a bit of window shopping and browsing in the stores I realised that actually, a lot of the stores were very discounted and I soon realised the appeal of shopping here! The website says that prices are 60% discounted which seems very much true.

Bicester is really close to Oxford City Centre which is a great place to spend the day, if you’re thinking of going there too, be sure to read:

Bicester Village train station which is a relatively new station is conveniently located within the shopping area so after a few hours looking around the shops before I knew it I was on the train heading back to London Marylebone station with a few extra bags in my hand.

I booked my tickets on The Train Line and got a really good deal so I’d recommend using them to check times and prices if you still need to book a ticket!

The Manor Country House Hotel is the perfect place to stay if you want to explore the Oxfordshire area, whether that is a trip to Bicester Village or perhaps a trip into Oxford City Centre or even a trip to the beautiful and very popular Blenheim Palace.
