There are a lot of places in Pembrokeshire that I’m familiar with but I’d never heard of Bosherston which is a village tucked in the corner of Stackpole in Pembrokeshire.

The best thing about Bosherston and the biggest attraction are the Bosherston Lilly Ponds which are lovely to see and walk around.

In this post, I’m going to tell you how to do a Bosherston Walk which includes walking around the Bosherston lily ponds, Bosherston lakes and takes you to the Bosherston beach!

Bosherston Parking

There is a car park in Bosherston, the postcode for your satnav is SA71 5DR and you can find it on Google Maps.

Be warned that phone signal isn’t good here so if you are relying on Google Maps, have the area downloaded in advance so when you lose signal your directions will still work. Bosherston is signposted from the main roads too.

Once you arrive in the village, the car park is at the turning along side the church.

The car park is quite small and very tight so you might have trouble parking on a busy sunny day as we did but luckily there is some street parking too.

You have to pay for parking at Bosherston car park and it is cash only. A 3 hour ticket is £3.00.

Bosherston Facilities

Bosherston is only very small, it is essentially a small village with a road running through it.

In terms of a Bosherston Cafe, there is Ye Olde Worlde Cafe which is a beautiful building covered in vines with inside and outside seating. You can order sandwiches here along with scones, cakes, coffee, tea etc.

And for a Bosherston Pub, just down the road from the cafe is St Govan’s Country Inn.

There are toilets next to the Bosherston car park.

Bosherston Lilly Ponds Walk

To walk to Bosherston lily ponds, take the footpath at the bottom of the car park by the toilets. You walk down this track for a few metres and straight away you will come to the top of the lilly ponds!

From here you can go left or right, we decided to walk in a circle around Bosherston lily ponds so we went left and came back to the car park from the track on the right which I really recommend you do too.

The Bosherston lilly ponds walk takes you right along the edge of the lily ponds and across a few bridges which in my opinion are a highlight of the walk because you get such a good view of the beautiful Bosherston ponds from the bridges and they are great to take photos on.

The footpath inclines and declines a bit but is generally fairly easy and good for children to walk along too. We did see someone with a pushchair however it didn’t look ideal so if you can, I’d say not to bring a pushchair with you!

Dogs are allowed on the track and it is a great place to walk your dogs!

After a 15 minute or so walk, if you turned left at the start, you will see signs to take you up another footpath which takes you to the Eight Arch Bridge. This is a wonderful looking bridge, it doesn’t go across the lily ponds as they have finished by the time you get up here but if you have time I recommend walking up.

To see the bridge and carry on with the rest of this walk, you will need to see it and turn back on yourself back to the main track where you left.

Soon you will leave the Bosherston Lilly Ponds walk and the footpath will take you to Bosherston Beach which is actually Broad Haven South Beach.

Broad Haven South Beach is a beautiful, huge, sand beach! There’s an estuary as you approach the beach from the Bosherston lily ponds walk and a small bridge to help you cross the water. From here you can walk right down onto the beach.

I did think that this walk was the only access to the beach but there is actually another car park closer to Broad Haven South Beach in Trefalen with the postcode SA71 5DR so if you don’t have any luck parking in Bosherston or you fancy parking closer to the beach, you could park here, walk up the beach and then towards the Lilly Ponds.

What a view to see at the end of the lily ponds!

After you have visited the beach, go back to the bridge that you crossed along the estuary but take the path to the left, not the path to the right which is the path you would have come down.

From here you continue to walk all the way a long the Bosherston Fish Pond and then into Bosherston lily ponds. This track is more covered than the other side so it will help keep you dry if its wet and cool if its hot as it was when I went.

This path will then back you back to where you started and you can go back to the car park in Bosherston.

Bosherston Lakes Fishing

Talking of fishing, there is a Bosherston fish pond just below the Bosherston lily pads. We spotted a few fish in here and there are areas where you can fish however we didn’t see anyone, maybe because it was a hot day.

For more information on fishing at Bosherston Lakes, have a look at this site.

Enjoy your time in Bosherston!
