Despite London having all of the amenities that we need when we visit, staying in an apartment in London is still beneficial. I checked into Citadines Islington recently to check out and review the newest addition to the Citadines Apart’hotel portfolio in Europe!
I had a brilliant stay at the Citadines Aparthotel in Islington London and I highly recommend it to you! So here is my full Citadines Islington review with reasons why you should stay there too!
I got up to quite a few things in Islington so you’ll also find a mini Islington travel guide to help you with what to see and do near Citadines Islington when you arrive!
Citadines Islington Review
Citadines Islington
If you are unfamiliar with Citadines, they offer apartment hotels around the world and their focus is offering the best living experiences!
They want us to feel like a local when we stay with them by staying in a bustling neighbourhood and having the facilities of an apartment on hand.
Citadines Aparthotel’s cater for intrepid travellers but also those who might need to get some work done on their travels (that’s me!), or those who are travelling for work.
When it comes to the UK and London, there are 6 Citadines locations in London including this one in Islington.
Islington is the newest addition to the Europe portfolio which is very exciting and it shows in the fresh decor of the Aparthotel and in the funky neighbourhood it is located in.

Citadines Islington Location
Islington is a brilliantly central location in London without being too central! It’s not in a tourist hotspot, it’s in local central London which is just what you need when visiting London I think (and this is based on me having lived in London!).
The Citadines Islington is located just off Upper Street which is the main street in the neighbourhood of Angel and the location is right in the middle of Angel Tube Station and Highbury and Islington Station providing access to a number of handy tube lines when you stay at the Citadines Islington.
There’s lots more to say about the amazing location of Citadines Islington, but I’m going to leave that for my reasons why you should stay there below!

Reasons to Stay at Citadine Islington London
Refurbished Decor
Because this is such a new property to the Citadines Collection, it is new, fresh and beautifully designed!
I particularly loved the decor downstairs in the seating area which is perfect for relaxing in and working in with it’s many tables and different types of seating. During the 3 days I was at the Apart’hotel I always saw someone in here working away on a laptop!
I also really liked the simple but detailed decor in the rooms and the wallpaper above my bedroom in the one bedroom deluxe apartment as you can see below!
Apartment Facilities
Citadines Islington offers a few different room types but no matter the type they all have a beautiful high ceiling with air conditioning, private bathrooms with a shower, flat-screen televisions with chromecast, a seating area and a fully-equipped kitchen.
No matter where we are in the world, having the amenities of a kitchen in our room really does give us a more convenient and comfortable stay and I always like it when I have a seating area to relax on instead of having to use my bedroom as where I sleep and where I relax in a hotel.

Extra Touches
I found the hotel staff at Citadines Islington really friendly and helpful. I was told when I checked in that tea and coffee was available all day free of charge downstairs.. definitely good if you are looking to work down there too.
Another thing I loved is the post box in reception and the note in the lift to say that because the building of the hotel used to be the Royal Mail Sorting Office, reception can give you 2 complimentary postcards which they will send for you.
I thought that this was a really nice touch, especially for international travellers and keeps the history of the building alive!
Things to do in Islington
Islington is developing a lot at the moment, there are places in Islington now that were not there when I lived in London only a few years ago. One of the newest additions is Islington Square!
Islington Square is where Citadines Islington Apart’hotel is located and it is a really cool new area!
Firstly, I recommend going for breakfast or lunch or for at least a coffee at Megan’s Restaurant next door, it’s also located in the old sorting office building and the pancakes and coffee I had were really good!
When I arrived on a Sunday the Islington Square Market was on which had a range of local food, drink and crafts so definitely head there.
Islington is known for its independent shops, cafes and restaurants and there are so many along Upper Street. I went for dinner at Mam & Laz which I really recommend for great Mediterranean food!
There are some more expensive high street shops in the area too but there are also vintage shops! Lower down closer to Angel is Camden Passage which is known for its vintage shops!
Lastly, Islington is home to lots of old theatres and cinemas so it’s a great way to see a recent film in an old cinema or to see an up and coming stand up comedian! The Almedia Theatre is the best one to visit!
Overall Review of Citadines Islington Apart’hotel
I really enjoyed my stay at Cidadines Islington London Apart’hotel. It was easy to get around London from, I walked down to Kings Cross one day, had dinner in Soho, went to Canary Wharf and enjoyed the local area of Islington and Angel.
I saw a variety of people staying at the hotel from leisure guests to people who were working away on their laptop downstairs so it really does cater for everyone and I would definitely stay again!
