The 3 Gili Islands of Gili Trawangan, Gili Air and Gili Meno are all islands for tourists to visit off of the coast of Lombok Island and close to Bali.

Due to how close together they are, getting between the Gili Islands is easy. You can visit the 3 islands taking a Gili Islands day trip from Gili T to Gili Meno for example, or spending a few nights on each Gili Island.

In this Gili islands travel guide, I’m going to explain how to get from Gili T to Gili Air, how to get from Gili T to Gili Meno and how to get from Gili Air to Gili Meno so you can visit these islands on your Indonesia itinerary!

Although it’s a ‘slow boat’, the journey time from Gili T to Gili Air by boat is just 20 minutes.

A one-way ticket costs 40,000 IDR and you buy it at the ticket office at Gili T pier. Make sure you’re there at about 9:20 am which is when they will start calling the boat which goes to Gili Meno first.

The fast boat from Gili T to Gili Air takes just 10-15 minutes.

A one-way ticket costs 85,000 IDR and can be purchased at the Gili Trawangan ticket office at the pier.

Although it’s a ‘slow boat’, the journey time from Gili Air to Gili T by boat is just 20 minutes.

There are also 8 fast boats from Gili Air to Gili Meno at 9:10 am, 10:30 am, 11:30 am, 12:30 am, 13:30 pm, 14:30 pm, 15:30 pm, 16:30 pm.

There are also 8 fast boats from Gili Meno to Gili Air at 10:00 am, 11:15 am, 12:15 am, 13:15 pm, 14:15 pm, 15:15 pm, 16:15 pm, 17:15 pm.

What’s the Difference between a Fast Boat to Gili and Slow Boat to Gili?

The price is the biggest difference, the Jadwal Penyebrangan fast boat around the Gili islands is over twice the price to the slow boat. The seats are better on the fast boat and are ‘proper’ seats whereas the slow boat just has wooden seats around it with no one to help you with your bags.

The other difference is the time but as I have said above, the slow boat is really not that slow due to the distances between Gili T, Gili Meno and Gili Air being very small. The difference is time is generally just 5-10 minutes.

How to Take a Day Trip to Gili T, Gili Meno and Gili Air?

It is very possible to have an enjoyable day trip on another Gili Island if you get the early slow boat there and the last slow boat back.

Things to do on a day trip to Gili Trawangan

There are so many things to do on Gili T, in fact, I have a list of 30 things to do in this post here!

If you haven’t seen any turtles yet, head to Turtle Point at the top of the Eastern Side of the island along Beach Road, it’s extremely likely that you’ll see Turtles snorkelling from the beach from Gili T. There are lots of places to hire snorkel equipment.

Hiring a bike is the best way to see Gili T so when you arrive on the island go to one of the nearby bike hire places and cycle all the way around the island which can be done in 1-2 hours depending on how many times you stop.

One of the best things about Gili Trawangan is the food on offer. There are some really great cafes and restaurants on Gili T. Along Beach Road by the Pier I’d recommend going to Casa Vintage Cafe, The Banyan Tree and Kaya Cafe for yummy, healthy food.

Things to do on a day trip to Gili Meno

Gili Meno is the least developed of the 3 islands. On a day trip to Gili Meno, I would recommend walking around the island to the Western Beach which is opposite Gili T. On the way you’ll be treated to lots of empty and quiet parts of the island which is something you don’t get on Gili T.

The Gili Meno Underwater Statues are the most popular place to visit on Gili Meno. Head to BASK which is a Hotel still under construction but has signs up and is on the map. You’ll probably be able to tell where they are though as lots of boat tours go to them so try to go to them early in the morning.

Diana’s Place just up from BASK is a good place for a drink and lunch and you can hire snorkel equipment from them to go and see the Gili Islands Underwater Statues. 

Finally, just behind BASK is a Saltwater Lake. It’s not too impressive but it is good to see because there is not a lake on the other 2 islands, be warned that it does smell a bit and you cannot go in the lake on Gili Meno!

Things to do on a day trip to Gili Air

Gili Air is a bit bigger than Gili Meno and more developed, but not as much as Gili Trawangan. I also think that Gili Air is more upmarket with nicer shops than Gili T.

On a day trip to Gili Air you could rent a bike to cycle around the island because the roads are much smoother here. We looked in the many nice shops on the street that runs up the middle of the island and then walked over to the West and North side of the island along the beach and hung out in a cafe with a swimming pool and chairs on the beach.

In addition to this and for something different, there’s an escape room on Gili Air and cooking classes, which are unique activities on Gili Air. There are also many nice cafes like Panchamama and Earth Cafe.
