EXCITING Things to do in Senggigi and Klui Beach in Lombok!

This post may contain affiliate links. I will receive a small commission if you use these links.

Senggigi is the main tourist town on the West Coast of Lombok and it’s conveniently located close to the Bangsal Harbour which is the harbour on mainland Lombok for the Gili Islands of Gili Trawangan, Gili Air and Gili Meno.

There are lots of things to do in Senggigi compared to many of the other places to visit in Lombok, but it is nowhere near as busy as the tourist spots in Bali and is essentially a strip of road with hotels, restaurants and shops along it, plus a nice long stretch of beach. Sengiggi is good if you are looking for a beach resort in Lombok as Senggigi accommodation is suited towards holidaymakers.

Klui, on the other hand, is a beach village down the road from Senggigi with a wild but quiet vibe. There are only a few places to stay in Klui and hardly anywhere to eat, but that’s part of its charm.

Senggigi and Klui are good places to spend a few days in Lombok as part of your Lombok itinerary, especially before or after visiting the Gili Islands, so here are the best things to do in Senggigi and best things to do near Senggigi!

Enjoy the Beaches near Senggigi

Enjoying the beach is one of the best things to do in Senggigi! Pantai Senggigi aka Senggigi Beach is part of a wild coastline that runs up the North-West part of Lombok. You will find hawkers here but you’re less likely to find sunbeds on the beach. Kerangdangan Beach near Senggigi is a good place to go if you want more of a local beach, so is Klui Beach.

Do note that the beaches get busier with locals on the weekend and quieter on weekdays so keep this in mind when it comes to what to do in Senggigi, where to visit in Senggigi and when to visit Senggigi.

PLANNING YOUR GILI ISLANDS TRIP

I lived on Gili Trawangan island for 6 months so I know it well! Here are my top posts to help you plan your trip:

GETTING FROM BALI TO THE GILI ISLANDS

There is only one way to get from Bali to the Gili Islands and that’s my fast boat from Padang Bay.

You can wait until you arrive to book your boat or be organised and book it in advance here. Booking in advance is especially good during the summer and Christmas months!

Surfing in Seggigi

When it comes to things to do in Senggigi, Lombok is all about surfing and here in Senggigi, it is no different.

If you want to go surfing in Senggigi I recommend heading to Klui Beach and going to see my friends at Lombok Wave Surf Shack. The waves there depend on the time of day but when they’re good, they’re good for beginners and experienced surfers which is why I say to go surfing in Klui.

Day trip to unknown Gili Islands

Most people think of the Gili Islands as the popular 3 islands of Gili T, Gili Air and Gili Meno, but that’s incorrect, there are lots of Gili islands in Indonesia and especially around Lombok.

Gili Nanggu, Gili Kedis and Gili Sudak are paradise islands that can be visited on a day trip from Senggigi which will take you to the pristine white beaches, bays and snorkelling in crystal clear water. These are 2 recommended tours from Senggigi to Gili Nanggu:

Party

From driving through Senggigi you may not expect the nightlife in Senggigi to be that good but there are many bars in Senggigi and even a fair few clubs in Senggigi which all add up to it being a good holiday destination in Lombok. You won’t get a party quite like Kuta in Bali here but for a few drinks and some music, it’s good enough and one of the popular things to do in Senggigi!

If you want to visit somewhere to watch the sunset and stay for the DJ later on, head to Verve Beach Club and Restaurant.

If you want to head out later and stay out all night, head to Marina Cafe and Sahara Club!

Drive along the coastline

The coastline from Senggigi to Bangsal Harbour is simply stunning and the best way to see it is on a moped. The roads are windy and very up and down, but they are good roads. There are also many places to stop to take in the views and visit the viewpoints in Senggigi which show off the coast even more!

(Note you can also drive from Senggigi to Bangsal Harbour via the Monkey Forest inland but the coastal drive is much nicer!)

Visit Benang Stokel & Benang Kelambu Waterfalls

For a day trip from Senggigi, head to Benang Stokel and Benang Kelambu Waterfalls. It is an easy and nice drive which takes you along the outskirts of the city Mataram and through Central Lombok. On the drive, you’ll also get a great view of Mount Rinjani on a clear day.

If you have a moped/scooter you can drive there yourself as the roads are good, or you can do a day tour like this:

Do Yoga in Senggigi

Not quite in Senggigi but not far, and not far from Klui, is Gypsea Yoga Eco Retreat. If you want a few of peace and to reconnect, you could stay in their onsite accommodation, or you can visit for a drop-in class. This is the answer if you want to do yoga in Senggigi.

Camp in Klui

This is something that the locals seem to do on the weekend, I’m not sure if it’s legal but I’m sure if you don’t cause any trouble it’s fine. There is a small patch of grass with coconut trees alongside Klui beach which is perfect for camping. Just be sure not to litter and take everything with you when you leave!

Where to stay in Senggigi.

There is a lot of accommodation in Senggigi and it runs all along the coast so be sure to check how central your hotel is if you want to be in the centre of the tourist hub of Senggigi.

High rated accommodation in Senggigi:

Jazz Sengiggi Hotel – $

Kila Sengiggi Beach Resort – $$

Where to stay in Klui.

There are only 2 places to stay in Klui and therefore Klui accommodation is limited but that shouldn’t stop you visiting.

Diva Lombok Resort is the cheapest option but it is still a high-quality hotel with nice rooms, staff, a swimming pool and a reasonably priced restaurant on site.

Jeeva Klui Resort is a beach resort in Klui on the other side of the road to Diva Lombok Resort. It is located right on the beach and offers various accommodation including ocean-facing bungalows and their swimming pool overlooks the ocean too.

How to get to Senggigi?

Gili Islands to Senggigi

If you visit Gili Trawangan, Gili Air or Gili Meno before visiting Senggigi, or afterwards, your trip will take you about an hour in total. From either of the 3 islands, you can get a local boat from the Gili Islands Bangsal Harbour on mainland Lombok. The boat takes about 20 minutes and costs just 15,000 IDR / 82p / $1.00 USD each way.

You do need to wait for the boat to fill but it doesn’t take long. Alternatively, you can take a tourist boat at a fixed time but it will cost more.

From Bangsal Harbour to Senggigi or Senggigi to Bangsal harbour, you can order a Grab motorbike or car, get a taxi at Bangsal Pier or if you are a group, I suggest pre-booking a private car from Bangsal Harbour like this.

This will apply whether you’re going from the Gili islands to Senggigi or Senggigi to the Gili Islands.

Bali to Senggigi

There are boats that leave from Padang Bai in Bali and arrive directly into Senggigi and take a few hours. You can book them with a local agent in Bali or Sengiggi or book them online on 12GO ASIA here.

Lombok Airport to Senggigi

The journey from Lombok Praya Airport to Senggigi and Klui is about 1 hour 30 minutes and is a straight forward journey. When you leave Lombok Airport there are lots of companies and taxi drivers outside willing to take you. Or your accommodation in Senggigi can book you a car back to the airport.
