You may keep seeing cheap flights to Billund in Denmark and wonder what is there to do in Billund? Or, know that Billund is the home of LEGO but wonder what are more of the things to do in Billund?
Well, I’m going to cover all of that in this blog post after visiting Billund for a brilliant LEGO-themed weekend recently which I’ll tell you more about if you didn’t realise Billund is the home of LEGO but also all of the other cool things to do in Billund and the surrounding area.
Things to do in Billund
Billund is a small town in Denmark and the reason you’ll see flights here on Skyscanner over other towns and places in Denmark is because it is the home of LEGO with a LEGOLAND theme park and LEGO house!
I loved how immaculate the streets are in Billund, how easy it is to reach the town and all of the fun from the airport and how this town is about having fun with LEGO incorporated into so many parts of it!
If you’re not going to Billund for LEGO, although it’s a nice area of Denmark, there isn’t a huge amount to visit and you probably won’t be that enthused by the place and location,
But, if you are going for LEGOLAND, you’ll be pleased to know that there are plenty of LEGO-themed activities to keep you busy along with some other attractions that complement a trip within Billund and slightly further away.
1. LEGOLAND Theme Park
This is of course the TOP thing to do in Billund! We had such a great time at the LEGOLAND Billund Theme Park, I have a full guide on how to visit, passes, costs, rides and more here but it really is a great day out for children of all ages and adults too, I think I enjoyed it just as much as my stepsons!

I haven’t been to LEGOLAND Windsor in the UK but I’ve heard and can imagine it gets very busy. We went to Billund on a weekend in August which would be packed in the UK and it wasn’t too busy. Aside from the high quality of the rides, I loved that the park and facilities were clean and organised and it was great seeing so many nationalities there.
2. LEGO House
LEGO House is a creative and immersive LEGO experience with 25 million pieces of LEGO inside! Aside from LEGOLAND Theme Park, it is the top tourist attraction in Billund.
It is known as Home of the Brick due to LEGO originating in Billund and is great for adults and children who love LEGO.
You need to buy a separate ticket (it’s not part of the theme park) and it’s around the same price as the LEGOLAND theme park entry ticket so make sure you give yourself enough time here to get your money’s worth.
You can enter LEGO House for free, but you can only access the ground floor which has 1 small area to play, good for very young children but nothing else.
You can also play outside the building at any time of the day. There are 2 sets of steps which we saw people having a picnic and playing on. There are also big pieces of LEGO you can climb on!
There are many different areas within the building with different LEGO pieces giving different creative ideas. There are also many areas for young children to play with DUPLO in a safe environment.
The staff were great I found, they are very interactive giving ideas and advice to people.
LEGO House has a cafe and restaurant on the ground as well as a shop (that we spent wayyyy too long in!). You can also exit and re-enter within the same day so you really can spend a full day there.
With LEGO-loving boys, I’d consider a trip back to Billund just to visit LEGO House and spend the full day there!
3. Stay in a LEGO-themed Hotel
A highlight of our stay was staying in the LEGOLAND Castle Hotel which we loved! It opened in 2019 and is still really new and well-maintained.
There are 2 more LEGO themed accommodations – HOTEL LEGOLAND and LEGO HOLIDAY VILLAGE however I chose the Castle Hotel because it offers the biggest room sizes.
There were 5 of us with 1 child being a teenager so we needed our double bed plus 2 bunk beds whereas the other hotels offered just 1 bunk bed. I booked the Superior Dragons Knight Room and we loved how every detail was themed!
The hotels also offer lots of entertainment, the Castle Hotel had LEGO pieces in reception to play with, they offered a treasure hunt and 2 outdoor play areas meaning we spent a few hours of our trip in Billund just enjoying the hotel and making the most of our stay as it was an attraction within itself!

4. Lalandia
Lalandia can be seen from LEGOLAND. It’s a Danish holiday centre with 3 different locations in Denmark.
In Billund, it has accommodation onsite but also lots of activities like an Aquadome, paddle courts, crazy golf, climbing courses and restaurants which you can visit without staying in their accommodation.
If you’re looking for things to do in Billund with kids, visiting here will give you a few more activity options and is easy to walk to from LEGOLAND and the nearby accommodation.

5. Teddy Bear Art Museum
Located next to LEGO House is the Teddy Bear Art Museum, another one of the things to do in Billund.
It’s home to 1200 teddy bears dating back to 1906 and is a place of art as well as play.
It’s one of the cheaper things to do in Billund and children aged 0-11 enter for free.
6. Skulpturpark Billund
We came across Billund Skulpturpark whilst walking to dinner from LEGOLAND Castle Hotel. It’s only a small park but has a few things for children to sit and play on.
They have a sign which says ‘play on the grass’. To us, this summed up what Billund is all about, it’s about having fun!
What’s cool though is it’s next to THE LEGO GROUP corporate offices. They have a giant LEGO man outside the office entrance and the building is made from LEGO-looking bricks!
7. WOW PARK Billund
Located on the outskirts of Billund is WOW PARK Billund. It’s an amusement park for the whole family where you can challenge yourself on everything from giant Tarzan swings, and high-hanging suspension bridges to wild slides and underground caves!
We didn’t go but here’s a great post from a family who have been! The Guardian called it ‘Go Ape goes Viking!’

For more of the things to do in Billund, you will need to travel slightly outside of the town and you will need to hire a car from Billund Airport or work out public transport to get to them.
8. The Living Museum Karensminde
A fascinating living museum located in nature where you can see, and have a go, at how farming work was done in the past in the area.
9. Kongernes Jelling
Known as the ‘Home of the Viking King’, whilst in Denmark learn about the Viking history and legacy of the Vikings in a a unique and modern sensory experience.
10. Givskud Zoo
If you want to add a zoo experience to your time in Billund, Givskud Zoo is just 20 minutes away. Here, you can drive out across the savannah and get up close to giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and lions crossing the road right in front of you!
11. Hiking in Syvårssøerne
Just a 15 minute drive from Billund town is an area called Syvårssøerne known as the ‘Seven Years Lakes’ which is a nice hiking area.
This is one of the great free things to do in Billund to get you outside and see more of the Danish countryside!
12. Boating in Odense
Odense is about 90 minutes from Billund so it’s a half-day trip or full-day trip from Billund but here, there are plenty of options for boating whether you pick a self-drive boat or a river cruise and at the same time, you’ll get to experience another part of Denmark.
Odense City is known a land of fairytales and wonder and a great look into Danish life.
