What are the best Caribbean Islands to visit in October?? Whether you’re planning an October half term getaway with the family or simply looking for guaranteed sunshine, this guide covers the 10 best Caribbean islands to visit in October for good weather, beautiful beaches, and family friendly fun.
A big section of this travel blog is helping families work out where to go in school holidays and certain months of the year. My guide on the best places to visit in the Caribbean in July and August is a big hit because this isn’t the topical time of year to go to the Caribbean because of the weather, but, this is the time when most families can travel. October is also a popular month to go!
Why Visit the Caribbean in October?
The Caribbean in October is one of the most ideal places to go because hurricane season is winding down, prices are lower than peak season, aka Christmas season, and the weather is warm, sunny, and near-perfect for a beach holiday. With that said, there are certain islands in the Caribbean that are better to visit in October over others which I’ll cover in this guide.
I have not included any Caribbean islands that are in their hurricane season in this post because although prices may be lower, this is a risk and extra insurance can be needed. Instead, I have included islands that are not fully in their dry season and often experience some rain in October because these can make more affordable Caribbean islands to visit in October. The main thing to note, is like many tropical parts of the world, downpours are intense but short, and the rain finishes and dries quickly, it doesn’t rain all day like we are used to in Europe!
Best Family Friendly Caribbean Islands in October
So let’s get into the best Caribbean islands to visit in October with a range of options! Some are easier to get to than others with direct flights from major cities in the UK and Europe. Others will require a stopover (if you stop over in the USA, be sure you have the ESTA visa!), but what I always say is that the longer it takes to get to somewhere, the more it will be worth it!
1. Barbados
Barbados is one of the most popular Caribbean islands to visit in October and it’s easy to see why, especially for families. With average temperatures of 30°C and around 7–8 hours of sunshine a day, the weather is warm and reliable, and the island sits far enough east to be less exposed to the worst of hurricane season. October is also shoulder season, meaning you’ll find better value on flights and accommodation, however these may increase during the last week of October for the October half term.
One of the reason’s it’s family friendly is because of the direct flights, especially from the UK. I recently flew to Barbados with TUI from Manchester. As well as this, the island is incredibly family friendly because of the with calm, sheltered beaches like Heywoods Beach ideal for young children, and a fantastic range of activities to keep older kids entertained too.
The Atlantis Submarine Tour is a firm family favourite, exploring coral reefs and shipwrecks without getting wet! While Harrison’s Cave, with its dramatic underground caverns and waterfall, is genuinely impressive for all ages and perfect for October half term in the Caribbean.

2. Antigua
Antigua is a classic October half term destination for UK families and one of the most popular Caribbean islands to visit in October. With direct flights making getting there easy and 30°C temperatures, warm bath-like sea sitting at 29°C it’s a great escape from the cold at home. Do note that October does bring some short, sharp rain showers as part of the low season, but these rarely last long and the sunshine always returns.
The island is famous for its 365 beaches. Dickenson Bay and Runaway Bay in the north are ideal for watersports like waterskiing, while Half Moon Bay in the south-east is calmer and perfect for snorkelling and beach-combing with younger children. For more active families, the Antigua Rainforest Canopy Tour delivers an exhilarating zip-lining experience through the jungle, and kayaking eco-tours are a brilliant way to explore the island’s coastline. I did these a few years ago and they are a lot of fun!
A few years ag I stayed at Verandah Resort which was amazing. I can see now that it’s an adults only hotel, which is a shame for families, but great for those travelling without children!

3. Aruba
Aruba is one of the standout Caribbean islands to visit in October and arguably the safest bet for guaranteed sunshine. Unlike most of the Caribbean, Aruba sits outside the hurricane belt, making it one of the most reliable destinations for good weather in October with 33°C temperatures and around 8 hours of sunshine a day. For families nervous about the Caribbean’s rainy season, this is one of the Caribbean islands with good weather in October, ideal for October half term.
It’s also brilliantly set up for families. Baby Beach lives up to its name with calm, shallow, and crystal clear, making it perfect for toddlers and young children. While Eagle Beach is one of the most beautiful and spacious beaches in the entire Caribbean. De Palm Island is a favourite with older kids, offering waterslides, snorkelling, and plenty of food, and the famous Flamingo Beach on Renaissance Island is where real flamingos roam freely on the sand!
Aruba is part of what’s known as the ABC Islands – Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao, they are close together and all of these are sunny Caribbean destinations in October so lets get into the other two!

4. Bonaire
Bonaire is one of the Caribbean’s best-kept secrets and a brilliant choice for families visiting in October. Like neighbouring Aruba, it sits outside the hurricane belt, making it one of the most weather-reliable Caribbean islands in October with temperatures around 27–32°C, calm seas, and fewer rainy days than much of the region. The shoulder season also means fewer crowds and lower hotel rates than the peak winter months.
What sets Bonaire apart is its exceptional underwater world. It’s widely considered one of the best diving and snorkelling destinations in the Caribbean, and families don’t need to be experienced divers to enjoy it because the Bon Sea Submarine, a glass-bottomed semi-submarine with air conditioning, gives kids a front-row view of the coral reefs without getting wet! Klein Bonaire is a short water taxi ride from the main island and boasts one of the most beautiful white sand beaches in the Caribbean.
It’s not all about the water though, for something truly unique, the island’s famous donkey sanctuary, home to over 800 rescued donkeys, is an absolute hit with kids and animal lovers!

5. Curaçao
Curaçao is another of the ABC islands sitting safely outside the hurricane belt, making it a reliable choice for good weather in October with temperatures around 31°C and warm seas at 28°C. I stopped here on a Caribbean Cruise the other year and I was surprised by the island’s colourful Dutch-influenced capital Willemstad which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and adds a cultural dimension that sets it apart from other Caribbean islands.
Families are very well catered for, with over 35 beaches to explore, snorkelling and diving in crystal clear waters, and the chance to swim with dolphins or spot nesting sea turtles at Shete Boka National Park. Christoffel National Park is great for older kids who enjoy hiking, and the Sea Aquarium is a popular rainy day option.
This is one of the more affordable Caribbean islands to visit in October half term if you compare it to the prices that will increase in the coming winter festive season.

6. St Lucia
For where to go in the Caribbean in October, St. Lucia is one of the most beautiful Caribbean islands to visit in October, with temperatures of around 30°C, and 8 hours of sunshine a day. While October falls in the wetter months, this is the Caribbean where showers are typically short-lived and the island remains lush, dramatic, and stunning, particularly the iconic Piton mountains. Families are brilliantly catered for, with Reduit Beach offering calm, shallow waters and the Caribbean’s first open-water sports park, Splash Island, right on the shore. October also marks the start of whale watching season, with pods migrating through the surrounding waters — an unforgettable experience for kids. Pigeon Island National Park, with its beaches, hiking trails, and historic ruins, is a perfect family day out.
With that said, St Lucia is one of the Caribbean islands with many adults only hotels so if you do want a child free break in October, there are many options to choose from!

7. Grenada
Grenada was another stop on my Caribbean Cruise with TUI that I did with my mum and out of everywhere we visited, Grenada was where I thought I wanted to go back to with my family because Grenada, known as the Spice Isle, is one of the Caribbean’s most underrated family destinations with so much character and not what you’d expect from a. typical ‘Caribbean Island’.
In October, temperatures sit at around 27–31°C with 7 hours of sunshine a day. October is one of the wetter months so expect some short, sharp showers, usually in the evenings rather than during the day and the upside of this is is significantly lower prices and a quieter, more relaxed island experience than peak season.
Activities for families are varied and go well beyond the beach. River tubing, waterfall hikes, and chocolate-making tours give kids a genuine taste of the island’s character, and Magazine Beach and Morne Rouge Beach both offer calm, shallow waters ideal for younger children. Grenada is particularly special for families who want something a little different from the typical Caribbean resort holiday.

8. Dominican Republic
When it comes to the ultimate family friendly Caribbean islands in October, the Dominican Republic is one of the best value Caribbean destinations to visit in October, with temperatures of 31°C, warm seas at 29°C, and around 8 hours of sunshine a day. October does fall in the wetter season so some rain showers are to be expected, but these are typically short-lived and the Dominican Republic remains a popular October half term choice for families, particularly thanks to its excellent all-inclusive resorts in Punta Cana which offer outstanding value at this time of year.
Beyond the beach, families are well looked after with a wide range of activities. Scape Park offers zip-lining and cave exploration, swimming with dolphins is a firm favourite with kids, and the National Aquarium makes for a great educational day out. The sheer range of family-friendly resort options, most with kids’ clubs, water parks, and endless activities on site, makes it one of the easiest and most stress-free Caribbean islands to visit with children.
You’ll also find many of these all inclusive hotels also have adults only pools and beach areas, great for those without children.

9. Bahamas
The Bahamas is one of the most iconic Caribbean destinations for families and if you’re lucky and book at the right time, October’s shoulder season pricing makes it a particularly appealing October half term option. With temperatures of 30°C and 7 hours of sunshine a day, the weather is warm and generally enjoyable despite October sitting in the wetter season, showers tend to be short and sunny spells are frequent.
The Atlantis resort on Paradise Island is a world unto itself, with its famous water park, marine exhibits, and beaches keeping families entertained for days without ever leaving the resort.
Beyond Atlantis, the Bahamas offers brilliant family experiences across the islands. The Ardastra Gardens in Nassau which is home to Caribbean flamingos, parrots, and lemurs is a firm favourite with younger children, while boat trips to nearby uninhabited islands for snorkelling are a highlight for all ages.

10. Grand Cayman
We’re ending with a good one! Grand Cayman is consistently rated one of the most family friendly islands in the entire Caribbean and October is a great time to visit, with temperatures of 28–32°C, brief tropical rain showers, and lower prices than peak season. The island benefits from over 360 days of sunshine a year, so even in the wetter months the sun is never far away. Seven Mile Beach with its powdery sand and calm, shallow water is safe and perfect for young children.
The range of family activities here is exceptional. Stingray City, where children can pet and feed wild Southern Stingrays in shallow sandbar waters, is an unforgettable experience for all ages. The Cayman Turtle Centre offers waterslides, pools, and up-close turtle encounters, while Crystal Caves and the Cayman Parrot Sanctuary are complete with zip line and playgrounds can keep older kids equally entertained.
Grand Cayman is genuinely one of the most well-rounded family destinations in the Caribbean.
