1. See the puffins at Puffin Island

Spring is the best time to visit the puffins on Puffin Island, a deserted slice of land just off the coast of Anglesey in the Menai Strait. During spring in Wales, these vibrant birds congregate on the island, and frequent boat rides depart from Menai Bridge from the beginning of the season to catch these birds in their most epic glory.

2. Head out on a hike

Spring in Wales is synonymous with outdoor adventures and one of the best things to do in Wales in Spring!

3. White water rafting on the River Tryweryn

Eryri (Snowdonia) is the place to be for adrenaline junkies in spring. The season unveils the upper stretches of the River Tryweryn, near Y Bala, in all its magical glory: wildlife bustling with activity and a lush canopy of fresh oak leaves draping over the water.

While dam releases ensure rafting adventures year-round, it’s spring when the Tryweryn truly cranks up the excitement dial. Brace yourself for a wild ride through Olympic-grade rapids like “The Graveyard” and “Ski Jump,” where even the brisk chill of the water adds an extra kick of adrenaline.

When I think of Spring in Wales, I think of baby lambs and there are many places to see baby lambs in Wales!

Firstly, you can go on a walk in the countryside or along the coastline and you’re bound to see lambs in the fields but there are also many petting farms which are lovely to visit in Spring like:

Just be sure to be respectful of the lambs when out walking. Don’t go too close to scare them and keep your dog on a lead if you are with one.

9. Get Your Adrenaline Pumping at Zip-World

One of my favourite things to do in Wales is visit Zip World and take on one of their fun and adrenaline-fuelled activities and spring is the perfect time to plan this!

Summer gets busy here with lots of people wanting to book and take part, but in spring, you can avoid many of the crowds! At the start of this spring, we went to Bounce Below in North Wales which was great because it was underground so there was no need to worry about the cold and rain making it one of the great things to do in Wales in the rain (we know it rains a lot during Spring in Wales!)

10. Garden delights

Spring brings a lot of colour to Wales’ many gardens and parks. Lose yourself in the enchanting beauty of Bodnant Garden, one of the National Trust sites in Wales, where rhododendrons, magnolias, and camellias burst into bloom against the backdrop of Eryri (Snowdonia).

11. Salmon fishing in the River Usk

While summer beckons with its lazy days and balmy nights, it’s spring that truly sets the pulse racing for fishing enthusiasts in Wales!

From March to May, as the river swells with high water levels, large fish migrate upriver from the estuaries to spawn, turning the River Usk into a hotspot for thrill-seeking fishermen.

Spring in Wales brings the start of all the best activities in Wales and surfing is one of them!

Hell’s Mouth near Abersoch is a surfing paradise, with a name scarier than its waves. Rent a board from a local store, ride the surf, and brace yourself for the addictive rush of catching those perfect Welsh waves.
