Broad Haven South Beach in Pembrokeshire, not too far from Tenby is a beautiful, big, sand beach. It’s one of those Welsh beaches that is great on a sunny day, especially if you’re taking children, but it’s also good for a big winter walk with the dogs.
One of the reasons why Broadhaven South Beach is so beautiful I think is because it is fairly hidden, it’s not close to a big town and it has very limited facilities.
In this post I’m going to tell you how to get to Broad Haven South Beach, things to do at Broad Haven South Beach and how you can combine the perfect Bosherston Lilly Ponds and Broad Haven South walk!
Broad Haven South Beach
Before we start, be warned that there are many beaches in Pembrokeshire with the word Haven in them!
Broad Haven Beach is a totally different beach which is next to Little Haven and there’s Broad Haven North Beach close to Milford Haven so make sure you are planning on going to this beach because all of these beaches are not close together.
For reference, Broad Haven South Beach is the closest of these beaches to the famous and colourful beachside town of Tenby!
Broad Haven South Beach Directions
The closest village to Broad Haven South Beach is Bosherston so this is where you need to head. There are road signs when you get closer so you know you are on your way. Once you pass Bosherston you will head towards Trefalen and then you will be right by the beach.

Broad Haven South Beach Parking
There are 2 car parks that you can use for parking at Broad Haven South Beach. One car park is very close by, the other requires a 20-30 minute walk but it’s a lovely walk through the Bosherston Lilly Ponds.
The closest and easiest car park uses the postcode Trefalen with the postcode SA71 5DR. This is directly at the top of the sand dune paths that lead down to the beach.
The second car park is the car park in Bosherston Village next to the Church.
The postcode is SA71 5DR and from here you will need to walk alongside the Bosherston Lilly Ponds to Broadhaven South Beach and you will come out at the back of the beach near an estuary.
Both car parks charge for parking and you need change to pay at the car parking machines. Currently, 3 hours is £3.00.
Broad Haven South Beach Facilities
This beach lacks the nearby facilities that Tenby beach and Saundersfoot beach have but that’s why it’s so special, pristine and beautiful I think.
There are public toilets in both car parks and occasionally an ice cream van in the car park closest to Broad Haven South Beach.
The closest pub and cafe are in the Village of Bosherston and even then there is only one cafe and one pub. Read more about Bosherston here!
Dogs are allowed on the beach and around the Bosherston Lilly Ponds so this is a great place for dog walking!
Broad Haven South Beach Things To Do
Things to do at Broad Haven South Beach include walking along the huge sand beach. On a sunny day it is a great beach for sunbathing, going in the water and for children to play on.
There are boulders and rocks to climb on at either end of the beach and there are caves too which you can enter during low tide, just make sure you are aware of the tide as the tide changes quickly in Wales and if it comes in too fast you can get stuck which is very dangerous!
Visit Pembrokeshire say that you can go cliff jumping at Broad Haven South Beach during high tide.
Along either side of the beach are cliffs you can walk along which are part of the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path and if you want a really good walk there is a footpath from Broad Haven South Beach to Barafundle Bay!
Barafundle Bay has been voted one of the best beaches in the world!
Aside from this, one of the most popular things to do at Broad Haven South Beach and one of the top things I’d recommend is to walk through the Bosherston Lilly Ponds whilst you are there!
Broad Haven South to Bosherston Lilly Ponds
There is a really easy and circular footpath you can follow from the back of Broad Haven South Beach around the famous Bosherston Lilly Ponds.
The whole walk will take you between 40 minutes to 1 hour depending on how fast you walk and how often you stop.
There are many bridges to walk over with beautiful views of the lily pads each side and some benches where you can stop and take in the views.
