You may think of visiting Istanbul for the top tourist attractions and whilst visiting the Mosques, Museums and Shopping are the best things to do in Istanbul, one of the best ways to get a real feel for this big and diverse city is by enjoying it’s cafe scene, or at least resting your legs from sightseeing whilst getting a great cup of coffee!
Now, this is not a complete list of the top cafes in Istanbul and coffee shops in Istanbul because there are ALWAYS new cafes popping up, but, as a visitor to Istanbul, this list will give you some brilliant ideas of where to go all over the city and cafes close to the best neighbourhoods to stay in Istanbul too!

Well, firstly, Istanbul does coffee very well! These days there are so many coffee shops in Istanbul with brilliant coffee! If you’re a coffee snob, you don’t need to worry in Istanbul!
Secondly, cute cafes in Istanbul are a thing with so many unique themed cafes and cafes with lovely interiors which you can work in, take a book to or enjoy brunch or lunch with a friend in.
Istanbul is a city surrounded by water and incredible city views so in this list, I have included cafes in Istanbul with a view, and these views are some of the best in the world!
Lastly, many people work online in Istanbul as digital nomads or on a working holiday which means lots of cafes in Istanbul have been designed for people to set up their laptops, get a good coffee and work all day. I spent a lot of time working in cafes in Istanbul so I have added the best cafes to work in Istanbul!

This is one of my top hidden gems in Istanbul because it really is a gem of a cafe and place to see in Istanbul.
Located in Üsküdar on the Asian side of Istanbul, which take a bit of getting to but there are plenty of reasons to go to Uskudar so it’s not a wasted visit. Nevmekan Sahil is a mix between a library and cafe and whether you come here to chill, read, work or refuel you can do so under their impressive lotus-style dome whilst surrounded by books!
Nevmekan Cafe is perfect if you’re looking for a cake and coffee stop whilst exploring Uskudar. Lots of students come here to work, study and have meetings so it’s one of the cool cafes in Istanbul to experience the more youthful side to the city too.

2. Galata Konak Cafe (Galata)

This is where I worked from all of the time when lived in Cihangir in Istanbul. It is set up for co-working with long tables and power outlets and plenty of chairs.. as long as the cats aren’t sitting on them!
They serve great coffee and a small selection of food like zeama and some of the best cheesecakes you’ll ever taste.
This is one of the best cafes for working in Istanbul because you don’t feel the pressure to leave after a while, it’s bright and airy so perfect for staying in all day. Plus the people working at 1 Kahve are super friendly.
Recently, many ‘modern’ cafes have opened in Istanbul. Some are too fancy, and a bit pricey. However, 1 Cafe in Cihangir stands out with a great atmosphere and affordable prices. With its warm atmosphere and reasonable prices, it stands out as one of the best cafes in Istanbul. Whether you want to relax with a book or catch up on some work, this is the perfect spot. Pierre Loti isn’t on this list of best cafes in Istanbul for its quality coffee or food necessarily but for its view!
The cafe is located on the top of Pierre Loti Hill, which is actually one of the hidden gems of Istanbul. I mention this cafe in this post because it’s not majorly on the tourist radar, but it is a great place for a walk and to see an incredible view from the top of the Golden Horn which separates 2 of the European sides of Istanbul.
If you are a keen reader, you’ll be interested to know this cafe is built over the site of the original coffee house where French novelist Pierre Loti used to come to admire the view says Inside Out Istanbul.

Looking for cafes to work in Istanbul? I loved working in Cream and Sugar in Ortaköy because of its big size and how many tables and chairs it offers.
When I visited on the weekday it was full of people working on their laptops providing a cool digital nomad cafe environment in Istanbul.
It is a bit obscure to find but it is inside the Feriye building and part of their chain of restaurants.
They serve lots of drinks and cafe lunch options perfect for working on the go in Istanbul! It’s perfect for doing some work in and then exploring more of Ortaköy and the Bosphorus.
20. Old Java Coffee Roasters (Galata)
Old Java Coffee Roasters is undoubtedly one of the top cafes in Istanbul. Tucked away within the historic district of Galata, this cafe is a must-visit destination for any coffee lover. It stands out as one of the best cafes in Istanbul, offering a delightful coffee experience.
